Naval Dockyard On Growth Path
The importance of naval dockyard in the history of maritime nations is reflected in the splendid contribution made to national developments. The products of

commitment to national development.
 

The founding fathers of the Nigerian Naval Dockyard had a vision. This is reflected in their mission which they tried to pursued aggressively through provision

of the excellent integrated facilities. The details of the facilities at Nigerian Naval Dockyard are a reflection of their vision to build ships.
 
 
REPAIR OF NN CAPITAL SHIPS
 
The Nigerian Naval Dockyard in the past year recorded some notable achievements by remaining focused on set objectives. The maintenance of the facilities

and upgrading of priority ones have enabled major works to be carried out on many NN capital ships such as NNS ARADU and NNS AMBE which has enhanced

greatly their operational availability. Nine other ships, some belonging to civil maritime operators, fishing companies,and oil and gas industries have been
successfully repaired at the dockyard.
 
The operational state of NNS ARADU is a testimony to the tenacity of purpose of NND workforce and a credit to the policy of developing relevant expertise
to enhance national self reliance.
 
 
JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT

The signing of a Joint Venture agreement with Dorman Long Engineering Limited has opened up avenues for cooperation in the area of fabrication for marine industries. This has attracted the attention of NNPC subsidiary NAPIMS resulting in the visit of the group General Manager Engineer P Chukwu and his management team.

The need for Government to focus attention on this strategic national investment has once again come to the fore as the policy on local content enhancement in the oil and gas industry is vigorously pursued. The Nigerian Naval Dockyard is making tremendous progress in this regard in a manner that will generate employment opportunity for the country.

Steps are also being taken to have technical partners for design and construction of ships. In this regard, the re-equipping of the design office has been given a priority and the slipway refurbishment study has been completed thereby paving way for commencement of works soon.

The Nigerian Naval Dockyard is poised to realizing its potentials in ship design, construction and repairs. Furthermore, the Joint Venture partnership with Dorman Long Engineering Limited is opening up avenues for value addition to the Nigerian Naval Dockyard operations to meet the demanding standards of the NN as well as the oil and gas industry. Forging partnerships for sustainable development is providing unlimited opportunities.
